The End? # 23
This was a great learning experience, in spite the occasional teeth gnashing: "How do you make this work???? oh, I see, never mind".
Before I started this training the most adventurous thing I did online was email, well, ok, and an occasional online order. Now I'm staying in the loop with bloglines; I've enhanced my crafting with flickr; have new and wonderful ways to entertain myself with Youtube and podcasts. I've also developed a better understanding and greater appreciation for blogs and wikis (the world doesn't start and end with wikipedia).
So Yay! Learning 2.0, and thank you for broadening my horizons...
...and yes, I would certainly take part in other LCPL learning adventures!

Thing #16
I loved St. Joseph County's wiki: what a wonderful way to incorporate the library's resources: both their materials and staff knowledge. What a great way to interact with the community, by connecting to local business and organizations. How neat that they find ways to keep their wiki informal (check out their cooking section, with the highlighted recipes!) ... I'm inspired!

Princeton's Book lover wiki with its sharper focus feels like a more reachable goal. I loved that it was in color!

LCPL is already taking steps to address Anderson's first point: the electronic books and databases we offer expand our patrons' ability to access information.
The idea of simplifying accessibility is enchanting, and probably a goal we should constantly keep in mind as we reevaluate our collection, and how we offer access to it. Can we look forward to a day when there is a single search point for all library resources? Something like an Amazon search, that allows you to search the entire site or select specifics: just books, or dvds. For us, it could be a search that incorporated all our databases, our catalog, and selected websites, perhaps even blogs. But: how would we present this information so as not to confuse out patrons? How much extra staff time would be required to maintain it?
Anderson's third idea cautions us not to assume that patrons will always come to us for their information needs. I find it interesting that he includes the library's virtual presence in this caution. Why would anyone visit a library webpage when they could get information elsewhere? Are we going to reach a point where inputting a library card number to access online information is considered too much of a bother? Will libraries start investing in market research to help them promote their virtual presences?
When I started in this profession, a mere 10 years ago, I was helping to update a card catalog...how far have we come!

Technocrati #14
I explored popular blogs, searches and tags and was impressed by the fact that this is still a world for those technologically inclined, with most of the popular blogs focusing on some aspect of technology and how to use it.
I was also amused to run into the notice that the Technocrati demon had escaped, on several occasions...but that happened just on one out of the several days that I visited the site.

Technological thoughts
What a subject...where to start?
I'm feeling fickle, so I'll skip the great picture and zero in on a relatively new devise that I'm enamored with: play-aways (yes, I'm a geek)
I've always enjoyed the concept of audio books, but I never got around to buying a portable cd player, my car has a tape deck, and let's face it: I'm just not organized enough to keep track of multiple components when it comes to my world of reading. I can handle a book, don't ask me to keep track of tapes...which one was I listening to? where did I leave it?
...so, play-aways, what an invention! ...the all in one concept: yes! ...light weight, attachable to me, with a memory, it knows where I stopped...and I love being able to speed up the narrator's voice :)

Just for fun
there are many fun and useful things out there, but who cares? The 5 year-old in me was immensely pleased with Matchr ...
a game that asks you to figure out which two of a selection of 16 pictures share the same tag. Need a break from working hard? this might do the trick...then again, if you're prone to talking to your computer you might want to watch it..."what do you mean that's tagged DC?!?! it's a LEAF!!!"...anyway, have fun!

As a librarian and former cataloger, I'm cringing at the lack of authority records here...:)
The appropriate spelling for this particular village is Pyrgos, though you'll also get some good Flickr pictures by searching for Pirgos, it's all the same, located on the Greek island of Tinos, in the Aegean sea.

7.5 Learning Habits
I think habit 7.5 is the easiest: Play!, oh, I can do that! it appeals to the explorer in me: what new thing can I investigate today? I think that's why I'm an avid, yet fickle crafter: scrapbooking, crochet, painting, jewelry making, chocolate making...the list goes on, I've done it all...have I done it well? seriously now! I'm just playing!
Frazzle's first post
I'm looking forward to catching up with the rest of you!
